Apple ID Works on the Web but App Store Says “Verification Failed”? Two Steps to Try

You entered the correct Apple ID password, but your iPhone keeps showing “Verification Failed” or “Error connecting to the server.” Try Method 1 first. If you can sign in, you do not need Method 2.

Method 1: Set the correct date and time on your iPhone

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap General, then Date & Time.
  3. Turn off Set Automatically. Check the time zone, date, and time below and set them correctly for your location.
  4. Return to App Store and sign in again with your Apple ID and password.
  5. After you sign in, go back to Settings → General → Date & Time. Turn Set Automatically back on and check that the displayed time is still correct.

If the time and time zone were already correct but App Store still says “Verification Failed,” try Method 2.

Method 2: Set DNS for your current Wi-Fi network

  1. Open Settings → Wi-Fi and make sure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the ⓘ next to the connected Wi-Fi network.
  3. Scroll down and tap Configure DNS.
  4. Choose Manual, tap Add Server, enter 8.8.8.8, then tap Save.
  5. Reopen App Store and try signing in with your Apple ID and password again.

If you can sign in, return to the same screen afterward and change Configure DNS back to its original Automatic setting.

Why does this happen?

On some older iPhones, the device's time server and Apple's verification server can occasionally be out of sync.
